Back to Basics and Beyond - Studio Lighting workshop

Back to Basics and Beyond - Studio lighting and the Fuji X System

This Hands on workshop is aimed to instil the basics of studio lighting into the photographers toolkit. Too often today the fundamentals of lighting are often missing from the photographers tools and without these skills it is incredibly hard to move to the next level of creativity. In this Back to Basics and Beyond workshop we will strip things right back and explain why these building blocks are needed to progress your skill set to new heights.

Once these basics are learnt we will move forward and explain the processes that go into creating award winning images that will amaze you and your clients.

I am well known for the ONE light setup which I will go over in depth to explain and demonstrate the methods and techniques used to create images like those on this page. which are all created with one light.

This day is a must for anyone wanting to progress with their studio lighting, areas covered include.

  • The Lightmeter, often overlooked but crucial to successful lighting.
  • Modifiers and soft-boxes, all sizes and shapes
  • The different type of studio lights available
  • Why just one light could be all you need
  • Camera settings, lens choices
  • Studio equipment and design - big space Vs small space
  • Natural light, how to modify to make it work for you.
  • Why I choose to use the Fuji X system for most of my work.
  • and much much more...

This workshop is held In my Nottingham base, a penthouse studio in where there is an abundance of natural light which will also be utilised and modified if necessary with diffusers and reflectors to create a different look to the strobe lit image and I will show why a natural light studio is making a resurgence amongst fine and portrait photographers. A glimpse of the studio can be seen here STUDIO.

The day will be split into two sections, firstly a demonstration of the fundamentals, the building blocks if you like, demonstrating lighting setups, what works and what doesn't, explaining the Rules/guides and should you follow or break these.  Then we have a professional model and MUA coming for the afternoon session to practice what you have learnt. Open to all skill levels and although I use the Fuji X system all camera makes are welcome.
